A Few Useful Tips for Being More Green
Do something each day to improve the planet. Plant a tree or at least more plants in your yard. Start by watering the plants in your yard. Consider a rain barrel from the roof gutter for free water. Clean trash off the side of the road or out of a stream.
Carpool! Better yet, take public transportation, work from home or bicycle to work if you can. Consider just walking to the corner store instead of driving. Find at-home activities.
Insulate your house better, install better windows, add solar panels. Don't run the water until it gets hot to wash your hands. Just use cold water to wash.
Recycle! Sometimes that can be as simple as packing your work lunch in a reusable container. If your landlord doesn't have recycle containers, consider finding a local friend with recycle containers and see if they will let you put your cardboard and glass in their containers.
Conserve energy. Turn off the lights when they are not needed. Turn off computers that are not in use. Turn the heat down to 65 F.
Try to create a zero carbon footprint for yourself. This is different from creating alternate energy sources. This is about reducing energy use, both in transportation and electricity and in what we consume - plastic containers, replacement appliances, cars, computers, etc.
